Costly Regulations Hurt Californians
The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) has proposed far-reaching and expensive requirements for an updated Caltrans municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permit which governs run off from roads, bridges and other Caltrans properties. This regulation would impose extensive new regulations that far surpass what the federal government requires from states under the federal Clean Water Act.
If implemented, Caltrans estimates the requirements in the draft permit would cost hundreds of millions of dollars annually to comply, draining funding available for vital transportation projects around the state, destroying thousands of construction jobs, and diverting significant taxpayer dollars.
To date, the State Water Board has not demonstrated the proposed regulations benefits to the public or the environment. Read more
